The Athenian

A Fusion of Eras: Crafting a Unique 5-Star Hotel in the Heart of Athens.
How can a listed classical building and a brutalist structure, originally designed as a bank by the renowned architect Sir Basil Spence, harmoniously merge into a luxurious hospitality destination? This project honors Athens’ architectural heritage, uniting the timeless elegance of classicism with the bold geometry of brutalism. Located in the city’s vibrant center, these iconic buildings reflect two defining movements that have shaped Athens since 1830.
The refurbishment mirrors the precision of an art restorer, revealing the hidden treasures of the classical façade while introducing a second skin to the brutalist core with earthy terracotta tones. This approach creates a dialogue between history and modernity. Meticulous intervention ensures every detail is thoughtfully refined, embodying ‘Discreet Grandeur’ alongside contemporary luxury. The Athenian achieves a unique identity, seamlessly blending classical beauty with the raw materiality of brutalism.
