The hotel (5*, capability of 141 beds) is located in "Souleimani" of Pythagorio, Samos.
The architectural intervention aims to confront with two major topics: firstly, the distinctiveness of the rocky, with low vegetation, surrounding landscape and secondly, the proximity to the archeological site of Efpalineon.
The architectural team conceived an architecture which 'submits' and merges with the surrounding landscape, a proposal which becomes a discrete landscape intervention.
The intense inclination of the landscape gives the opportunity for a "semi-hidden" intervention with shallow cuttings where the architectural elements locate in parallel with the inclination's curves. That gesture has its reference to the typical landscape design of the Greek islands, the so called "pezoula/ terrace". Corollary, the resort expands on various levels while the roof tops of the proposed linear structures are planted in order to restore the continuity of the natural landscape.
The structure of this architectural intervention finds its roots on the ancient system "dokou epi stilou", which was repeatedly used on the classical and traditional Greek architecture.
The clarity of the forms is concretized by the pre-existing materials of the natural landscape: wood and natural stone in combination with concrete which is submitted under special treatment (mainly on the slabs of concrete) in order to resemble with stone.
The exceptional clarity of the forms, the thrift usage of the on site materials and the total absence of decoration exalts the architectural expression to architectural archaeology.
