Project: House
Location: Paleo Psychiko, Athens, Greece
Client: Private
Project Status: Preliminary design
An extension to a small but historically significant house, having belonged to the mathematician Carathéodory (1873-1950), the decision to retain the existing residence is taken both from an environmentally sound view point and the need to preserve the memory of its previous owner.
The new extension mediates a relationship between the existing house and the landscape in which it sits. A process of folding allows the house to unfurl to meet the garden which in return itself folds upwards towards the living spaces of the house.
