Project: Hotel
Location: Cephallonia, Greece
Client: Blue Marble Hotels and Amber Resorts
Project Status: Final Design
Designed to nestle into its dramatic setting - a secluded
valley overlooking Myrtos, one of the most spectacular
beaches in Greece - Elia Valley consists of a core hotel
with 62 suites, 15 villas with private pools, and 28 pods.
Taking inspiration from the surrounding olive grove,
the resort is rooted into the landscape. Following
the natural incline of the site, the different sections
of the hotel are slotted unobtrusively into the stepped
errain. The entry point is a narrow footpath that flows
like a river through lush walkways, opening up into
an amphitheatrical garden where the communal
areas are situated. The entire façade of the main
hotel is a perforated screen that shields rooms
from the midday sun and glows like the shimmering
olive trees at night. Camouflaged in the orchard,
clustered pods have angular roofs shaped
ike the outstretched nets used for the olive harvest.
Organic textures and indigenous materials reflect
the sustainable ethos, while crisp white structures
and sliding glass walls infuse interiors with light.
Although intimate and subtle, every aspect of the hotel
benefits from sweeping views across
the valley towards the sea.
